Where Secret Beach actually is
Secret Beach sits on the west, lagoon side of Ambergris Caye, north of San Pedro Town. It is a stretch of shallow, warmer water with beach clubs, not a hidden cove you stumble into. You still need a plan to get there. A taxi works for a drop-off. A golf cart lets you leave when the music is too much, carry a cooler, and stop for photos on the way.
The drive from San Pedro
- Fill the tank in town. There is no reliable fuel at the beach.
- Take the main north road and cross the Sir Barry Bowen Bridge.
- Continue north, then follow signs west toward Secret Beach.
- Expect mixed pavement, gravel, and sand. After rain, go slow.
Daytime is easier. There is little lighting on the north road after dark, and golf carts are easier to miss than a taxi. If you stay for sunset, use headlights, keep passengers seated, and do not overload a 4-seater with six people and a speaker.
Which cart to take
A 4-seater is fine for two adults and a bag. Take a 6-seater if you are a family, a group, or anyone who wants the cooler off people’s laps. Confirm with the operator that Secret Beach is allowed on that rental — a few companies still restrict how far north a cart may go, or charge a towing fee if you strand it.
