Take the 4-seater if
- There are two or three of you, maybe a small child
- Luggage fits at the hotel after the first drop
- Secret Beach is one day, not a daily commute with a cooler
- You want the lower daily rate on a week-long stay
A 4-seater is the default San Pedro rental. It handles town, groceries, and a careful north run. It does not handle four adults plus a cooler plus beach bags without someone sitting badly.
Take the 6-seater if
- There are four to six people who will ride together
- You want the cooler off laps for Secret Beach
- You have dive bags, a stroller, or mobility gear
- You are splitting cost across a group — the extra daily rate is often less than a second cart
6-seaters cost more (often US$15–$25 a day extra) and disappear first in February and Easter week. Request one as soon as lodging is firm. See when to book.
Two 4-seaters vs one 6-seater
Two 4-seaters give independence and cost more. One 6-seater keeps the group together on the north road, which is the point for most families. If teenagers want freedom, two carts can be worth it — both drivers still need licenses.
Caye Caulker
If you rent at all on Caye Caulker, a 4-seater is usually plenty. The island is short. A 6-seater is a comfort upgrade, not a necessity. More on whether to rent there.
