Do you actually need a golf cart on Caye Caulker?
Often, no. The Split, the main docks, bakeries, and a lot of guesthouses sit on a short, sandy grid. Bikes and walking cover it. Rent a cart if any of these are true: you have children or an older parent, you melt in midday sun, your room is toward the north or south ends, you are carrying dive kit, or you simply want a rolling seat after a snorkel day.

How Caye Caulker rentals differ from San Pedro
Supply is thinner. A handful of local outfits rotate a small fleet. Hourly and half-day rentals are more common than on Ambergris Caye, where weekly carts dominate. Daily prices can look similar or even higher because there are fewer carts to go around. Peak weeks (late December, Easter, summer US holidays) need advance matching more than a walk-up at the dock.
- Pickup at the water taxi dock or the tiny airstrip
- Guesthouse drop-off when the operator can spare a runner
- Sandy, slower roads — speed is not the point here
- You still need a valid driver’s license
Caye Caulker vs San Pedro, in one paragraph
If your trip is split between islands, you may want a cart only on San Pedro and walk Caye Caulker. If Caye Caulker is the whole stay and the room is not downtown, request a cart for the full visit. We will not push a week-long rental on someone who is sleeping 400 meters from the Split.
